American Flag Cake for 4th of July Celebration

1 Cake mix any flavor
Fresh Strawberries-remove stems
Fresh Blueberries
1 Container heavy whipping cream
1 Large can whipped cream

Bake cake in a 13″X9″ cake pan. Let completely cool. Whip up the heavy whipping cream, then spread over top of cake. Place blueberries in top left hand corner. (Flag stars) Then starting at top of cake, on the right side of blueberries, begin alternating a line of strawberries and then a row of canned whipped cream until cake is completely covered. You will be placing each strawberry in a line, then making a line with canned whipped cream until entire cake is covered. (Flag stripes)

Fourth of July Firework Exploding

1 package (4-serving size) Jell-O Brand

Berry Blue Flavor Gelatin

1 package (4-serving size) Jell-O Brand

Any red flavor gelatin

2 cups boiling water

1 cup cold water

2 cups thawed Cool Whip

Whipped Topping

Dissolve each package of gelatin completely in 1cup boiling water in separate bowls. Stir ½ cup cold water into each bowl of gelatin.

Pour each mixture into separate 8-inch square pans. Refrigerate until firm, at least 3 hours.

Cut each pan into ½ inch cubes. Spoon blue cubes evenly into 8 clear dessert dishes; cover with whipped topping. Top with red cubes. Finish off with tablespoon cool whip.

*Addition: You can use an additional box of blue berry flavored gelatin and set in pan same as above. After well set, cut out star shapes in the blue gelatin and top above desert with stars.

Makes 8 servings.

Children’s Homemade Play Dough Recipe

1 C. flour

1/4 C. salt

1 C. water

1 T. salad oil

2 tsp. cream of tartar

Food coloring

Mix together in heavy saucepan until lumps are out. Cook over medium heat and stir constantly until very thick and pulling away from sides. Remove from heat. Cool. Knead for a few minutes. Store in tightly sealed plastic bag or container.

Variations: Use one package unsweetened Kook-Aid in place of food coloring. If you want your dough to smell nice, use 1 tablespoon baby oil in place of 1 tablespoon salad oil. (Make sure children do not eat play dough if you use baby oil)
